Another weather warning has been issued as storms prepare to hit Southampton

Another weather warning has been issued for Southampton as storms hit across England.

The Met Office has now issued a second yellow warning for thunderstorms from midday until midnight tomorrow (Wednesday 30 July).

It comes after it issued the same warning for Thursday, forecasting “torrential” rain with possible hail and gusty winds.

The new warning covers most of the south coast, including London and Salisbury.

On its website, the Met Office said: “Although many places will remain dry, a few thunderstorms are possible on Wednesday.

“These are possible at any time, but become more likely during the afternoon and evening.

“Where these occur, 20 to 30mm of rain is possible in an hour and maybe even 50mm in two hours; the latter is more likely in SE England and parts of East Anglia during the evening.

“Lightning will be an additional hazard.”

Motorists have been told to expect splashing and flash flooding which will lead to difficult conditions and some road closures.

There is also a small chance that some communities will be cut off by flooded roads and power outages.
