Marcus Rashford reveals his Manchester United dream has changed over time

Manchester United are looking for a comeback season this time after a forgettable year that ended with the FA Cup trophy last season.

Many players will have redemption on their minds, but perhaps no other player fell harder from his first season under Erik ten Hag than Marcus Rashford.

After breaking the 30-goal barrier for United in 2022/23, he has looked a shadow of himself in 2023/24, even coming off the mark at times despite being on form.

He has started this pre-season in encouraging form and his assist for Rasmus Hojlund’s goal against Arsenal was just reward for a renewed attacking enterprise.

It will soon be a decade for Rashford in United’s senior team and the striker has now revealed how it has changed him.

Marcus Rashford- Your dreams change

Rashford had one of the most memorable debuts in United history when he scored a brace on his Europa League debut after being parachuted into the team just before kick-off due to various injuries.

He followed it up with another goalscoring display against Arsenal on his Championship debut and the world was at his feet.

That carefree young Rashford feels like a lifetime away now that he is one of the oldest and most experienced members of the squad with 402 appearances and 131 goals.

Speaking to MUTV ahead of the match against Real Betis, he spoke of how his United dream has changed over time as goals continue to be ticked off his ‘to do’ list.

He said: “I think as you get older, your dreams change. So, you know, at first it was just about playing for Man United. And when you get there, it’s about winning.

“So I still dream of winning the big trophies, the Premier League and the Champions League with Man United. So, you know, hopefully we can do that.”

A monumental season is approaching

Rashford’s entire career has been a rollercoaster, as close to being in a literal sense as possible. He follows remarkable campaigns with complete misfortunes, always leading to frustration for fans.

The talent is clearly there, so last season was particularly shocking as it was hoped to build on a previous world-class year.

It was the return of a Rashford finally fit, but what happened instead were constant complaints about his work rate, lack of finishing ability and some off the pitch issues.

Now, with Ineos at the helm of the club and a refreshed coaching staff renewing the atmosphere at the club, the hope will be that Rashford can finally find some semblance of consistency.

With a young core around him, he needs to step up and be a leader as they carry their own performances.

He himself has a huge role to play if United are to realize the changed dream they have at Old Trafford.
