Britt’s Pick: Brent Neale’s Peridot Cabochon Crown Ring

Well, that was quick. If you haven’t already had a crazy summer, then you probably never will (unless, of course, you’re not too afraid of being considered totally uncool).

It seems the color-based trend has suffered from overexposure syndrome, a condition whose only known survivor is Taylor Swift. It happens when hordes of young people flock to a certain trend and then something so unthinkable happens that it becomes persona non grata: adults enforce it.

In this case, our once-beloved summer gone too soon became the vehicle through which a very remarkable adult—the (probably, presumptive) Democratic presidential candidate—tried to connect with young voters. Now one of two things will happen: everyone and their mother will be dressed in green, or no one is. And this has nothing to do with political affiliation, except to cherish that generational divide, where young people do things that make old people scratch their heads and if the latter dare to understand it (let alone ). try it), those things become relics of the past.

This development comes on the heels of an article published by yours truly, in which this geriatric millennial dared to dissect this summer’s hottest shade. But, as I said in my previous post, none of the fuss really matters – after all, peridot is basically peridot. And peridot, in our industry and to those who subscribe to it, is forever.

You need no more proof that this unique masterpiece by Brent Neale. While not exact that kind of rotten but pretty green that had everyone raving just a week or so ago, the ring’s central peridot cabochon has a candy-like exterior that looks delicious all the way down the middle. The one-of-a-kind ring, which comes from the designer’s Capricious Cabochons collection, is set with tourmaline cabochons and yellow and green sapphires, displaying an array of green that will please every palate.

So, to screw up or not to screw up — I suppose it could all depend on your age… ie not the question. There’s no doubt when it comes to peridot and other green-alicious stones, and Brent Neale’s masterful creation could easily be the poster gem for that undeniable fact.
