Birmingham City star linked with Leeds United Switch

Birmingham City could be about to lose a key player from their squad as Championship giants Leeds United have shown an interest in him.

After Birmingham’s disastrous relegation to League One last season, many of their highly-rated players have been subject to interest from clubs in the higher divisions.

Many Championship clubs are waiting for the Blues players to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

However, with Birmingham’s recent financial situation changing, they appear to be under no real pressure to sell any of their stars in this transfer window.

Is Jordan James on the move?

According to Football Insider, Leeds United have expressed an interest in signing 20-year-old Birmingham sensation Jordan James this summer, but are facing competition from at least one Premier League club.

Despite only being 20 years old, James has already made over 100 appearances for the Blues, a staggering number for a player to have at such a young age.

He is also a full international as he has made 11 appearances for Wales, with his debut for his country coming in 2024.

James was one of the standout players in what was a disappointing season for Birmingham, making 42 league appearances and scoring eight league goals as he announced himself to the football world as a top talent.

Why would Leeds want the Birmingham midfielder?

Leeds’ interest in the midfielder comes after last season’s starting centre-half Glen Kamara was recently sold to Rennes for £8.4m.

Manager Daniel Farke sees James as the perfect replacement for Kamara as he bids to challenge for the league title in 2024 after May’s play-off final heartbreak.

James has already attracted interest across Europe, with Europa League winners Atalanta previously showing interest in the Welshman.

He would also be entering a fantastic environment of familiar faces, with fellow Welshmen Ethan Ampadu, Daniel James and Joe Rodon already key parts of them.

Is a deal possible?

It will not be an easy deal for Leeds to complete. They will have to fend off both interest from highly-rated clubs and the fact that Birmingham will hold strong on any transfer valuations they may have on James.

However, if they succeed, it will be one of the best deals we’ve seen in the Championship this season and will massively boost the Whites’ chances of promotion.
