Extra bus services will run through West Leeds from next week.

From Monday 20 May, the number 30 bus from Horsforth via Calverley, Woodhall and Galloway Lane to Pudsey will be taken over by Yorkshire Buses, contracted by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.

Cllr Peter Carlill (Lab, Calverley & Farsley) welcomed the move and said: “Many residents have been concerned about the unreliability of this service, so this new operator and program will hopefully make it a more usable service.

“There are still local concerns about the reliability of Route 16 and the lack of Route 508, which we will continue to work on.”

First Bus is increasing the frequency of its X6 and 72 services between Bradford and Leeds to offer a combined service up to every seven minutes during the day Monday to Saturday.

The change is part of an overall overhaul of its Bradford network to help customers with better connectivity and punctuality. With these changes, First Bus aims to alleviate some of the challenges caused by the ongoing major infrastructure works and the closure of Bradford Interchange.

This builds on revised First Bus routes already introduced last month to improve journey times. The changes take effect from Sunday, May 19.

Michael Moore, Head of Network for First Bus in West Yorkshire, said: “We are delighted to be investing in three additional buses on our 72 and X6 services between Bradford and Leeds. This will further increase the frequency to operate every 15 minutes on the X6 express and every 15-16 minutes for the 72.

“This allows us to better co-ordinate both services at Bradford and Leeds and manage the combined frequencies during the day, particularly at peak times when pressure on the road network is at its highest.

“We have once again worked closely with the Combined Authority and Bradford Council’s highways team to introduce these improvements, which aim to make it easier to get around the city while the current works are completed.”

Full details of the changes are available on the website First Bus website.
