Amazon MGM Studios has announced that it is moving forward with a sequel to Road House, with the return of Jake Gyllenhaal.

Road House was a huge streaming success for Prime Video, and Amazon MGM Studios announced today that a sequel is on the way. Star Jake Gyllenhaal it’s been confirmed that it’s coming back, and the plot details are being kept under those boring shrouds they always seem to be in. So far, the first film has been streamed to approximately 80 million viewers, the most-watched studio-produced film to ever debut on the service. The film was directed by Doug Liman and also played Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, Joaquim de Almeida, Conor McGregor, Lukas Gage, Arturo Castro, BK Cannon, Beau Knapp, Darren Barnet, Dominique Columbus, Bob Menery, Catfish Jean, Kevin Carroll, Travis Van Winkleand Hannah Lanier. Imagine how much money Amazon could have pocketed for MGM Studios if they had given it a limited theatrical release Challengers or Air? This was seen by way more people, and those numbers would have been huge still if they had locked it in theaters for even a weekend of special screenings. Oh good. Apparently this is now a franchise for them; on the film side, that’s not something they have a lot of. They have no hope of getting Liman back in the director’s chair, so they better hire someone who knows how to make an action movie.
