The Sheffield Wednesday star is not ruling out management as he is taking a coaching course

In the 2023/24 season alone, the Owls switched from Xisco Munoz to Danny Rohl; with the latter arguably being the club’s best manager in almost 10 years and the former being statistically the club’s worst manager ever.

Fans will be hoping that Rohl settles in at Hillsborough and gets the club back on track after a very difficult few years in and out of the Championship.

There will be a lot of forward planning this summer in terms of squad and playing contracts, with the contracts of many of their current players yet to be finalised.

Liam Palmer is one of those out of contract in the summer; Now on 436 total appearances for the Owls, the 32-year-old says his representatives will sort out the next step.

But Palmer also thought about the years ahead, coaching something he wants to eventually move into.

Speaking to Football Heaven, Palmer discussed a number of things, including his plans for the future.

He is currently studying for his coaching badges, recently taking a UEFA B license course with the hope of one day becoming an academy coach.

Palmer said: “I would love to coach. I would love to coach the kids at the academy. I love it when you give them points and things to look at and they put them into action.

“Leadership, I’m not sure I’ve seen the highs and lows; it is a short-lived career, now especially, a short-lived career.

“But everyone tells you to do UEFA B while you’re playing, so that’s what I do. I do it.

“Shut up, then I have it if I want to pick something in terms of coaching or an opportunity comes up as an academy manager or as a manager.”

Sheffield Wednesday know exactly what to do with Liam Palmer

Palmer is Sheffield Wednesday through and through and although he still has a few years left in the game, him becoming manager with the Owls is certainly nailed.

The club needs people like Palmer who have the club’s best interests at heart. He, who works as an academy manager, having come through the academy himself, could really help the club shape their younger players into ‘Wednesday players’.

And the Owls are certainly putting more emphasis on the academy and younger players with Rohl now at the helm, as seen with the breakthrough of Bailey Cadamarteri this season.

Palmer is clearly eager to coach and could be a position waiting for him in S6 as soon as he finishes his game.

And although he has played under a host of different managers, it seems that Palmer may have been put off by some of the horror tenures he witnessed in S6, although he hasn’t ruled it out entirely.

But it looks like the Englishman has a few years left as a player. He has shown in the 2023/24 season that he is still a very useful player at Championship level and someone who scores some very important goals too.

He seems certain to stay at the club, but if he doesn’t then there will be no shortage of suitors.
