Leeds United’s Will Ferrell’s strategy explained amid Tom Brady punt

Will Ferrell’s involvement with Leeds United can be used to raise the club’s global profile, similar to Tom Brady’s role at Birmingham City. That’s the view of football financial expert Kieran Maguire, after it recently emerged that the Hollywood actor had bought a minority stake in the Whites.

United, who face Norwich City in the second leg of their Championship play-off semi-final at Elland Road tomorrow night, have a diverse list of US sports star investors including golf stars Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas and Olympic icon Michael Phelps. Ferrell, whose personal fortune is estimated at £127 million, is no stranger to English football, having previously attended Premier League games for Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City.

It has been claimed Ferrell will be at Wembley Stadium to watch United should they reach the Championship play-off final on Sunday 26 May. The 56-year-old is the latest celebrity to invest in Albi through them. American owners 49ers Enterprises.

United are not the only club to attract American investors in recent years, with former NFL stars Tom Brady and JJ Watt buying stakes in Birmingham City and Burnley respectively. “If Ferrell is going to buy Leeds United, I suspect it’s similar to the relationship between Birmingham City and Tom Brady,” said Football Insider.

“I don’t think it will be a huge financial investment from the Hollywood star, but it will help raise the profile of the club. On the back of the Welcome to Wrexham series, I would imagine that Farrell’s unique personality and fame can be used by the club and Farrell himself to their mutual benefit.”
