Police issue update in Nuneaton rape investigation

Police say investigations into an alleged rape in gardens on the outskirts of Nuneaton town center are ongoing. Initially, it was reported that the incident took place on the premises of St. Nicholas Church.

The church car park and graveyard in Vicarage Street were sealed off with police tape yesterday morning (May 14). Then, later yesterday, Warwickshire Police issued an “important update”.

The force said the alleged incident took place in the George Eliot Memorial Gardens, across the main road from the church. A Warwickshire Police spokesman this morning (May 15) told CoventryLive that there was no stage guard in the gardens, which are behind the Town Hall.

But investigations into the incident are ongoing and officers have been scouring CCTV footage from the area. The spokesman said they were not yet in a position to provide details or a description of the suspect.

“Investigations are ongoing,” the spokesman said. “No arrests have been made yet.”

Just after midnight yesterday, police were called to a report of an alleged rape in the George Eliot Memorial Gardens. A woman was allegedly approached by an unknown man, who then allegedly forced her to have sex with him.

“If you saw anything in the area or live in the area and have a doorbell camera, dash cam or CCTV footage please let us know,” the police spokesman said.
