Royal Enfield files trademark for ‘Classic 650 Twin’ – launched this year? – Bike news

It is no big secret that Royal Enfield is working on an extensive range of motorcycles in the 350cc, 450cc and 650cc ranges. The internet is often flooded with spy shots of various Enfield bikes to be seen road testing. Among the various bikes under development, the one everyone has been waiting for is the new 650cc Classic.

Given that the Classic 350 was the mainstay for the Chennai-based manufacturer, the name ‘Classic’ carries a lot of value. Test mules of the Classic 650 have been spied several times over the past year or so. Now, Royal Enfield has filed a trademark for the upcoming two-cylinder Classic.

Royal Enfield Classic 650 Twin: Design and Expected Features

Royal Enfield has registered the name ‘Classic 650 Twin’ which essentially confirms the development of such a bike. Before that, everything was just speculation. The upcoming Classic 650 Twin will be based on the same underpinnings as Enfield’s other 650cc models namely – Interceptor, Continental GT, Shotgun and Super Meteor.

However, changes are expected to be made to the chassis, especially the subframe. The suspension setup will be adjusted according to the requirements of the bike. In terms of looks, the Classic 650 will retain the same styling as its 350cc namesake, save for an additional peashooter muffler. Both chrome and black elements will be seen depending on the variant you choose.

When it comes to features, it’s likely to get the same analogue instrument cluster as the Classic 350, with a small digital inlay and a USB charging port. That said, Enfield might offer the Classic 650cc with an LED headlamp setup.

Royal Enfield Classic 650 Twin: Specs and Expected Prices

When it comes to hardware, the Classic 650 Twin will get conventional telescopic forks at the front and dual shock absorbers at the rear. Braking duties will be done by disc brakes at both ends, aided by dual-channel ABS. It’s expected to ride on 19-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels — alloy or wire-spoke, depending on which variant you choose.

The Classic 650 will be powered by a 648cc oil-cooled parallel twin engine that pushes out 47bhp and a peak torque of 52Nm. This engine will be mated to a 6-speed gearbox via a slip-assist clutch. We expect the upcoming Classic 650 to be the most affordable model in the 650cc lineup, slotted below the Interceptor. Hence, expect it to be priced around Rs 3 lakh (ex-showroom).
