On-loan St Johnstone defender Luke Robinson’s season is over.

The Wigan man has returned to his parent club after tearing cartilage in his knee on the McDiarmid Park training ground.

With Tony Gallacher unable to recover from a calf strain until last Saturday, the double injury meant Saints faced Aberdeen without a recognized left-back.

Manager Craig Levein is optimistic Gallacher could be available for this weekend’s clash with Livingston.

However, Robinson will now undergo a scan to determine the full extent of his injury.

“Luke has had a bit of a cartilage problem for most of the season,” Levein said.

“From time to time something would get caught in the joint and burn.

“We have to look at it for a while. But he has a proper tear.

“It was a really harmless change of direction on the training ground last week.

“He went back to Wigan for a scan. We won’t see him until the end of the season.

“So it’s a bit of a blow.

“But injuries are part of the game and I tend to be more philosophical about those things.

“We have to try to think of people who can do a job for us now.

“I feel for Luke, but I have to focus on who is available to us right now.”

Levein added: “Tony had a bit of a calf problem before the Hibs game.

“That caused him some problems. We were hoping to get him back for the Aberdeen game.

“Obviously though, Graham had to go and play there because we didn’t have anyone else on the left.

“Fingers are crossed with Tony for Livingston this weekend. He is improving. I hope.”

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov won 11 trophies at Sunday night’s Player of the Year awards.

The near-maturity was no surprise given the consistency the Bulgaria international has shown since being signed by Steven MacLean from Cambridge United in the summer.

“Dimi has been great in his performances and the awards are well deserved,” said Levein.

“It’s getting better week by week.

“He played to a very high standard and has a strong voice in the dressing room as well.”
