Kelechi Iheanacho gives cryptic update on his future amid Leicester City’s Championship win

Kelechi Ihaenacho has seen his immediate future become a huge topic of discussion after reports announced the striker’s displays at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), much to the dismay of the club’s coach, Enzo Maresca.

The 27-year-old, who played for Nigeria at the tournament despite a minor injury, has seen his playing time drop significantly since returning to Leicester City.

The Super Eagles star has played just 57 minutes out of a possible 1,350 in the championship since his return from AFCON.

With his fortunes at the club taking a turn, Iheanacho has been linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium, with a move to Premier League side Aston Villa a distinct possibility.

Amid ongoing speculation about his future, the AFCON 2023 finalist gave a cryptic update on what lies ahead.

Iheanacho gives cryptic update on his future

During the title celebrations at the King Power Stadium, the Nigerian forward was seen wearing a shirt that read:

“We have history, when I’m gone you’re going to miss me.”

This message appears to be a subtle nod to Leicester City and their fans, whom he has represented for over seven seasons.

In an interview with a journalist, Oma Akatugba, in celebration of the title, Iheanacho was quizzed about his feelings following Leicester’s promotion to the Premier League. He answered,

“I feel good, I feel great, it’s a massive achievement.”

When asked about his future, Iheanacho gave a sketchy answer saying:

“I don’t know at the moment, I’m still a Leicester City player.”

During his seven-year tenure at the King Power Stadium, Iheanacho scored 61 goals in 232 appearances, according to data from Fotmob.

Finidi’s contractual situation was discussed

Sports short in an earlier report, several reasons were stated why the newly appointed coach of the Super Eagles, Finidi George, is yet to sign a contract.

Despite being announced as the manager of the Nigerian team, the 53-year-old is still waiting to sign a contract as the NFF is yet to agree terms with his current club, Enyimba.
