Live updates as the A46 closed due to the crash

The A46 has been closed due to an accident this afternoon (Wednesday 15 May). The northbound carriageway near the junction with Ratcliffe on Wreake has been closed, National Highways said.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said a lorry and a car were involved in a collision. A spokesman for the service said crews from Melton, Birstall and a technical rescue team from South Station were called at 3.10pm.

They said two people were able to walk from their vehicles and no injuries were reported. Leicestershire Police advised motorists to find alternative routes due to “significant delays”.
