Japan, which is ruled by the LDP, will hold a leadership election on September 27, Fuji TV was quoted as saying by Reuters

TOKYO (Reuters) – The ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) is finalizing plans to hold party leadership elections on Sept. 27, Fuji TV reported on Monday.

The party leader will almost certainly become Japan’s prime minister because of the PLD’s majority in the lower house.

Incumbent Prime Minister Fumio Kishida decided to step down in September, ending a three-year term marred by public discontent over political scandals.
