Yorkshire dancer, 26, killed in ‘reckless sex game gone wrong’ before lover runs off and takes his own life

A professional dancer strangled by her boyfriend during sex was unlawfully killed, a coroner has concluded.

Georgia Brooke, 26, from Ossett, died in hospital after going into cardiac arrest after taking GHB and cocaine with boyfriend Luke Cannon at his home in Bradford. He called 999 but Georgia could not be saved.

She later died in hospital, prompting a homicide investigation by West Yorkshire Police. They began a manhunt for Luke, who was found hanged a short time later near the hospital.

Coroner Dr. Christopher Johnson said the main cause of Georgia’s death on February 2, 2022 was compression of the neck, which he said was severe and prolonged. The GHB level was said to be in the toxic range. A police investigation found that Georgia had a sexual interest in “choking”.

Coroner Martin Fleming, concluding that Georgia died as a result of unlawful killing, described what happened as a “sex game gone wrong”.

He said such sexual practices were both “dangerous and reckless” and suggested what happened to a Georgia woman should send a “strong message of discouragement to those involved in such practices”. He said Georgia was manually strangled by her partner during sexual activity together.

Mr Fleming said the strangulation amounted to an attack on Georgia and she “could not have consented to the fatal consequences”. He said there was no evidence Luke intended to kill Georgia.
