BMW is recalling more than 720,000 vehicles due to short circuit problems, NHTSA says

BMW is recalling 720,796 vehicles in the US due to problems related to a short circuit, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced Tuesday.

“An improperly sealed electrical connector on the water pump can be exposed to water and short circuit,” NHTSA said.

The recall includes several crossovers, including the X1 and X5, along with several 5 Series sedans, among other models.

Dealers will inspect and replace the water pump and muscle connector as needed and install a protective shield free of charge, the U.S. auto safety regulator said.

NHTSA also said BMW was aware of about 18 customer complaints, concerns or field cases, but had not received any reports of accidents or injuries related to the report in the US.
