How hot it will be in Greater Manchester as the ‘Saharan Plume’ approaches the UK

Temperatures are set to rise in Greater Manchester over the coming days as a ‘Saharan plume’ approaches the UK.

After a warm spell earlier this month, followed by a recent spate of “changeable” wet and windy weather, temperatures are set to warm up again across the country. Ahead of warmer weather, there is growing speculation that another Saharan plume will impact Britain in the coming days – which could pose risks to drivers through the dust it brings with it.

Forecasts suggest temperatures will start to rise again from Sunday (May 19) to next Tuesday (May 21), bringing good weather just in time for half term. In Greater Manchester, Met Office forecasters are predicting drier conditions after today (Thursday), when heavy rain could fall this afternoon.

Tomorrow, the mercury is set to reach 21C during the afternoon, with largely cloudy conditions forecast amid sunny spells. Saturday will feel warm again with temperatures reaching 20C.

More sunny spells are forecast, with some cloudy patches. Forecasters are predicting that Sunday will be a mostly warm and sunny day as temperatures in the 20s are expected again in the afternoon.

On the general outlook for the North West from Saturday to Monday, Met Office forecasters said: “Overnight clouds will give way to sunny spells each day. Remaining mostly dry, but there is a risk of scattered showers. Sensation of heat in the sun. “

Ahead of the potential Saharan wave, experts have warned of the major dust hazard it could bring, as the phenomenon recently wreaked havoc when it hit mainland Europe last month. It delighted onlookers as it brought hazy skies and vibrant sunsets to many regions, but it also caused air pollution levels to rise to the point where they exceeded some of the European Union’s safety thresholds in several regions – including the popular destination of vacation Spain.
