Vardy plea, Iheanacho exit, EFL slammed – Highlights from Leicester City’s title celebrations

Leicester City celebrated becoming Championship champions in style this weekend. Despite losing 2-0 to Blackburn Rovers, the Foxes were in the mood to party at the King Power Stadium before the festivities continued in the city centre.

Thousands of supporters packed Leicester city center to celebrate with the football club, with Khun Top even speaking publicly for the first time in what seems like forever.

After the emotional scenes in Saturday’s LE2, the parade was more enjoyable with comedy moments from Jamie Vardy and Marc Albrighton. Leicestershire live if the reporters live downtown and have a look at some of the better moments and some of the moments you might have missed.

Jamie Vardy’s daughter

One of the most memorable moments from the parade was when Jamie Vardy called for silence in the crowd below after the team made their way onto the clock tower balcony. Holding his four-year-old daughter Olivia in his arms, Vardy asked her to do ‘Rock, Paper Scissors’, she forced herself to enthusiastically say into the microphone, ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors, **** off’. The moment drew laughter and cheers from the crowd below.

Vardy then reacted by pointing out how similar his daughter is to himself while laughing.

Top’s message

It’s not very often that City fans hear directly from club chairman Aiyawatt ‘Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha, but the chairman was given the microphone while on the balcony with the team. He used the opportunity to send a message to his fans. Here’s what he had to say:

“I want to thank you very much, it’s amazing. We went through a lot of pain last year, I know how you feel, but today we celebrate, we’re back in the Premier League, where we belong!

“Thank you for being with us, keep pushing the team and we will make you proud, thank you very much.”

Callum Doyle loves life

As the players made their way from the balcony, it looked like Man City loanee Callum Doyle wanted to soak up the atmosphere just a little more. As the crowd sang along to the music, Doyle was there joining in and dancing along with the fans.

The defender is set to return to Manchester City in the summer but has impressed during his time with City – whether the club are able to make a move to make the deal permanent remains to be seen.

At the start of the season the Coventry fans chanted – “Callum Doyle, it could be you”. He seemed quite happy to have decided to move to Leicester.

Marc Albrighton’s plea

The ’10 more years’ Jamie Vardy chant is one that has been doing the rounds in recent months given his contract situation. But it was Vardy himself who started the same plea for club legend Marc Albrighton.

The winger is expected to leave the club in the summer at the end of his contract – but remained coy when asked what the future holds. Vardy took the opportunity to take the microphone and sing “10 more years, 10 more years Marc Albrighton” to the crowd.

Vardy himself has also remained coy about his own future, although reports suggest he could sign a new one-year deal with the club in the summer.

The missing stars are clear

When the players finally reached the Clock Tower, all the players were seen in front of the balcony soaking up the atmosphere. Some (Vardy and Albrighton) communicated with the fans, while others just accepted it.

However, two players in particular seemed to stay away from the team’s celebrations. Dennis Praet and Harry Souttar, two individuals who are expected to leave in the summer, seemed to stay away from the rest of their teammates.

Praet eventually moved into the main group of players, but Souttar spent most of his time with one of the staff members. If body language is anything to go by, the centre-back won’t be in Leicester’s squad next year.

Clear EFL feelings

The lifting of the trophies at the King Power Stadium on Saturday will live long in the memory of supporters and everyone. However, during the introduction of the players and staff, there was a brief period of booing that rang out around the stadium as the EFL representatives appeared.

Chairman Rick Parry and chief executive Trevor Birch both took to the field to hand out their medals to the players, but they did not get a good reception. In April, Birch wrote to the Premier League asking them to fast-track Leicester’s FFP case so the EFL could award them a points deduction – it didn’t work.

Leicester fans made their feelings known with boos around the King Power Stadium.

Iheanacho hint

Along with Vardy, Albrighton and Praet, Kelechi Iheanacho is expected to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of June when his contract expires.

The striker has scored six goals and assisted three in 26 games this season (12 starts) and has been the fourth-choice striker under Maresca for much of the season. He hasn’t confirmed whether he’s leaving or not, but his jersey during Saturday’s celebrations would be confirmed.

While others wore a Leicester City shirt, Iheanacho had a white top that read: “We have history, when I’m gone you’ll miss me.”

Kop Stand preference

Now this is an interesting one. After City lifted the title in midfield, they headed straight to the Kop Stand to celebrate in front of the loudest section of the stadium.

After posing for pictures and dancing to their version of “Freed from Desire”, they headed to the corner where Union FS and the standing section is where most of them spend more than half an hour with the trophy.

Throughout the season, Maresca opted to push his players over to the supporters in that section after games and it was quite telling that they celebrated in front of the same supporters at the end.
