The Royal Navy bomb squad called Redruth School a chemical scare

A Royal Navy bomb squad has rushed to a school in Cornwall due to concerns about a dangerous chemical. Police and military bomb squads were called to the scene of a suspected hazardous chemical spill at Redruth School.

One witness reported hearing a loud “thud” that could be heard from miles away. They said: “Do you know anything about the mighty ‘bung’ in Redruth? Apparently the bomb squad and Royal Navy police in the Redruth school field… some people heard it from the Barncoose area.’

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police told CornwallLive that there was a chemical believed to be dangerous at the school. They said: “Police were called at around 5.10pm on Wednesday 15 May following reports of a chemical believed to be potentially dangerous located on Redruth School.

“The Royal Navy Explosives Disposal Team attended and neutralized the substance nearby.”
