Sweet shop with an old fashioned look opens in Crystal Palace – Inside Croydon

There’s a new but nostalgic ice cream parlor and classic sweet shop open on Crystal Palace Triangle to delight the taste buds of kids of all ages just in time for summer.

Old sweets: Sweet Child of Mine has just opened in Crystal Palace

Sweet Child of Mine opened this week at 16 Church Road.

It’s run by long-time local resident Sue Allison, who noticed there was a void in the area for a sweet offering offering a mix of pick-and-mix and old-fashioned ice cream.

The store is full of sweet jars, offering 50 pick-and-mix flavors, including classics like sherbet lemons, chocolate limes, white mice and flying saucers, to newer sweets like rainbow belts and dino sours.

In addition, there are 15 flavors of Marshfields ice cream, with sorbets, dairy and refreshing plant-based treats.

Sweet Child of Mine also offers delicious, small-batch British artisan chocolates and marshmallows. And new lines are added weekly.

Customers can step back in time, choose to buy a small, medium or large bag, then go ahead and fill them with a mix of all their favorite sweets.

The shop also offers party bags and personalized sweet jars that make great gifts.

And Sweet Child of Mine has indoor seating and will offer build-your-own sundae parties during the winter months.

Store manufacturer: owner Sue Allison

Before starting every kid’s dream candy store, Allison worked in television production for more than 25 years on some of the biggest game shows in the world, including as a series producer on Ant and Dec’s PokerFacetheir million pound show and as a producer of a successful original series that broke the ratings tracking with Bradley Walsh.

“I’ve had a brilliant career, but the last couple of years have been very difficult for the TV industry,” Allison said. Inside Croydon.

“The UK used to be a major powerhouse of new formats, but it seems those days are over with less ambitious commissioning and budgets and schedules so tight that it’s not possible to do shows in the same way. It felt like the right time to go and do something completely different.

“I wanted to create an attractive and delightful place that would put a smile on people’s faces – both adults and small children who are captivated by the rows of jars. We’ve all been that little kid in the candy store once, and it’s great to see those memories come back.

“And after tasting Marshfield’s Farm ice cream on vacation, it was a no-brainer to partner with them on this venture.

“The hardest part of the whole process was choosing the flavors because they have so many great options.

“They do the popular flavors brilliantly – chocolate, salted caramel, cookie dough, chocolate mint, but their more unusual flavors are amazing too. Their award winning currants with clotted cream are delicious!”

It took Allison about six months to find the right location and choose the right products and suppliers, even down to finding the right writer, designer Hana Sunny, to create the branding, inspired by 1950s American ice cream design.

Now Allison is confident that Sweet Child of Mine will become the dream candy store for her and others.

Sweet Child of Mine is at 16 Church Road, SE19 2ET and is open Wednesday to Sunday (plus bank holidays) from noon to 6pm.
