US stocks fall at the close; The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.39% by Investing.com

Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , and sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close on the NYSE, it lost 0.39%, while the index lost 0.60% and the index fell 1.14%.

The best performers of the session on the were American Express Company (NYSE: ), which rose 0.81% or 2.06 points to trade at 257.09 at the close. Meanwhile, Merck & Company Inc (NYSE: ) added 0.80% or 0.93 points to end at 117.43 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ: ) was up 0.79% or 2.57 points to trade at 329.50 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were NIKE Inc (NYSE: ), which declined 2.93% or 2.50 points to 82.79 at the close. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: ) declined 2.29% or 0.46 points to 19.61 and Salesforce Inc (NYSE: ) declined 1.96% or 5.17 points to 259.03.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Insulet Corporation (NASDAQ: ), which rose 6.15% to 204.42, Bio-Rad Laboratories Inc (NYSE: ) which rose 2.94% to settle at 328.75 and Tyson Foods Inc (NYSE: ), which gained 2.75% to close at 65.69.

The worst performers were Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ: ), which fell 19.02% to 443.49 in late trade, Bath & Body Works Inc . (NYSE: ) which lost 7.00% to settle at 32.29 and JM Smucker Company (NYSE: ) which declined 4.95% to 114.73 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Forte Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ: ), which rose 2,140.58% to 7.73, Exicure Inc (NASDAQ: ), which rose 601.81% to settle at 2.21 and BranchOut Food Inc (NASDAQ: ) which gained 145.35% to close at 1.65.

The worst performers were from the latest Ltd (NASDAQ: ), which fell 96.19% to 0.09 in late trade, SolarMax technology Inc (NASDAQ: ) which lost 41.38% to settle at 1.70 and ARB IOT Group Ltd (NASDAQ: ), which fell 30.69% to 0.29 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange through 1839 to 960 and 114 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq, 2,229 declined and 1,067 advanced, while 136 ended unchanged.

Shares of Tyson Foods Inc (NYSE: ) rose to 52-week highs; up 2.75% or 1.76 to 65.69. Shares in American Express Company (NYSE: ) rose to all-time highs; gaining 0.81% or 2.06 to 257.09. Shares of Utime Ltd (NASDAQ: ) fell to a low; down 96.19% or 2.14 to 0.09. Shares of SolarMax Technology Inc (NASDAQ: ) fell to a low; down 41.38% or 1.20 to 1.70.

Gold futures for December delivery fell 0.50%, or 12.85, to $2,540.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodity trading, crude for October delivery fell 1.22%, or 0.92, to $74.61 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.33% or 1.05, to 77.61 dollars per barrel.

EUR/USD fell 0.59% to 1.11, while USD/JPY rose 0.47% to 144.62.

US dollar index futures rose 0.53% to 100.99.
