Manchester United suffer injuries in the FA Cup final but three players are close to returning

Luke Shaw is set to miss the FA Cup final after suffering a setback in his injury recovery, but Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof have returned to training ahead of Manchester United’s final Premier League game of the season against Brighton.

Harry Maguire will not be fit for Sunday’s game at the Amex but is on course to return for the FA Cup final, but Shaw is now a major doubt for the Manchester City clash and could miss the European Championship, with England set to announce their batch on Tuesday.

Lisandro Martinez trained again on Thursday after returning against Newcastle on Wednesday and the Ten Hag will now test the fitness of Varane and Lindelof in the final training session on Saturday before the trip to the south coast.

“We’re working to bring players back,” Ten Hag said. “Licha had a good session and now, others on the field like Rapha, Victor Lindelof, we have to see how far they are on Sunday. We leave tomorrow, we have training on Saturday.”

The Ten Hag was also asked about the fitness of Maguire and Shaw, with England naming a provisional squad on Tuesday. The centre-back is set to play in the cup final but Shaw has suffered a setback which is set to end his season.

“For England I can’t say, but for the cup final we are working on it,” Ten Hag said. “Harry Maguire has a good chance of being available, Luke is more complicated at the moment, let’s say less chance of him succeeding, but still a very slim chance. He had a setback, now we have to find out how far he is.”
