A major storm hitting Japan is having a strong effect on some of the country’s airports. The Associated Press reports that Typhoon Shanshan is making things so windy that some planes are forced to abandon landings.

Footage from the broadcaster showed plane after plane rocking back and forth as they approached the runway at Fukuoka International Airport. The conditions were so harsh that the planes eventually nosed up into the sky despite having their wheels off.

France 24 reports that Shanshan, which arrived on Thursday morning, has already done so killed at least five people. Japan’s biggest airlines, All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines, said they would cancel 600 flights collectively on Friday.

Shanshan is the strongest storm to hit Japan this year, and it’s a particularly slow and wet one; some places were drenched with nearly three feet of rain in just 48 hours. Reuters reports that over 5 million people they received evacuation orders to avoid its destructive trajectory.
