Royal Caribbean is offering a timely (and cheeky) gift to some passengers

When you step on a cruise ship, certain things you can easily do on land become difficult, if not impossible.

Cruise ship internet just got better with the addition of Starlink service from Elon Musk’s SpaceX. This enhancement lets you participate in a Zoom meeting (usually) or watch YouTube videos with just a little bit of buffering.

Starlink offers a much improved experience, but you can’t be a competitive gamer using it onboard and you probably wouldn’t want to stream live. However, the internet on board can do a lot more than it used to, and that means cruise ship passengers are no longer missing out on things like day ticket sales.

Your connection may not be as fast as someone on land, but the one you’ll get from Royal Caribbean, Carnival and Norwegian, which have added Starlink to their fleets, will generally be stable enough to complete the ticketing process. .

However, not every passenger pays for internet. Some are actively looking to disconnect and see no need to pay for WiFi. That creates a problem when one of the biggest bands in the world unexpectedly decides to reunite, with tickets going on sale just days after the band shared plans for a massive tour.

Royal Caribbean, in a publicity stunt of sorts, will make it easier for passengers on an aptly named ship to get a chance to buy tickets to this highly unlikely reunion.

Oasis of the Seas welcomes back Oasis

While most bands who break up get back together – there’s usually too much money involved to prevent that – Oasis looked like they might be an outlier. The band, founded by Liam and Noel Gallagher, stopped performing together because the brothers seemed to really hate each other.

This isn’t uncommon in sibling bands, but this rift seemed deep enough that money might not solve the problem. In this case, though, something (probably money) put the band together.

“Oasis is ending years of feverish speculation with confirmation of the long-awaited series of shows in the UK and Ireland that will form the domestic leg of their Oasis Live ’25 world tour. Oasis will hit Cardiff, Manchester, London, Edinburgh and Dublin this summer. from 2025,” the band said on its website.

Tickets for the UK dates go on sale from 9am local time on Saturday 31 August and will be available from ticketmaster.co.uk, gigsandtours.com and seetickets.com. Dublin tickets will be available from 8am on the same day from ticketmaster.ie.

Oasis of the Seas, which does not bear the band’s name, left Barcelona. That means many of the passengers on board would be European and may want a chance on what is likely to be a tour that sells out quickly.

Royal Caribbean makes this effort easier for them.

Royal Caribbean offers free internet

European sailings are port-intensive, so many passengers choose not to pay for internet as they can access it through their providers when on land. The current 7-day sailing has only one sea day, August 31, the day Oasis tickets go on sale.

This means that anyone on board Oasis of the Seas who did not purchase a Voom internet package would not be able to attempt to purchase Oasis tickets. And the cruise line is taking a big step to correct this situation.

Oasis fans aboard Royal Caribbean International’s ship of the same name have been promised free Wi-Fi when tickets for the tour go on sale Saturday morning. Royal Caribbean has told passengers on Oasis of the Seas that free WiFi will be available between 8.30am and 11am BST on August 31, Travel Gossip UK has reported.

It’s hard not to see this as a playful stunt, as a number of other Royal Caribbean ships are currently sailing in Europe.

“With Oasis tour dates set to light up Cardiff, Manchester, London, Edinburgh and Dublin next summer, this unique opportunity means Royal Caribbean International guests won’t miss out on securing tickets despite being on holiday.” wrote the cruise line.
