Man in hospital with ‘serious injuries’ after fire at Stourbridge tower block

The fire broke out on the fourth floor of a high-rise in Green Street at around 12.40pm on Thursday.

Five fire engines attended the scene as crews worked to extinguish the blaze, which was extinguished by 1.36pm.

A man was also rescued from inside the apartment by fire crews, while a nearby resident was brought to safety.

On arrival at the scene, paramedics administered specialist trauma care to a man who had suffered “serious injuries” before taking him to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a fire at a property on Green Street at 12.50pm.

“An ambulance, a paramedic officer, a MERIT trauma doctor with a critical care paramedic and the Trust’s hazardous area response team attended the scene.

“Upon arrival we discovered a patient, a man, who had sustained serious injuries.”

Fire chiefs confirmed at around 2.40pm that the incident had been brought down and crews remaining at the scene were checking neighboring properties for smoke.
