Leicester City manager’s search entering final stages confirms caretaker boss Foster

Leicester City interim head coach Jennifer Foster says the club’s search for a new manager is entering its final stages.

The Foxes have been without a permanent manager since sacking former boss Willie Kirk last month following an internal review. In early March, Kirk stepped back to help the club with the internal process, leaving assistant Foster in charge on an interim basis.

Foster has overseen Leicester City’s last eight games, however she has confirmed that Saturday’s game against Liverpool will be her last as interim boss as the club close in on a potential new manager.

“The club is in the process of hiring a new manager and the process is getting to the final stages, which is great,” Foster told a news conference at Leicester City. “The manager they are looking for is an ambitious one and I am very excited to be working with them.

“This will be my last game in charge. I enjoyed it, but I’m really excited to work with the new manager that’s coming in.”

Leicester City have registered just four league wins this season and could end the campaign as high as tenth in the Barclays Women’s Super League table. Foster says the club is disappointed with the league standings, although recent performances have generally been good.

She said “I’m very proud of what I do. There is a lot of pride in leading this team over the past two months. Of course, it was not without its challenges.

“We were unhappy with some results but the real nice thing for me is that we performed. At the end of the day, games come down to the little details and I think it’s been the same all season. We haven’t been where we wanted to be in the last two months, added to that already since the start of the season.

“We’re a bit disappointed with the position we’re in, but I think it bodes well for next season. We have real talent at this club and in this team.”

Continuing to discuss this weekend’s game against Liverpool, Foster said he expects a closely contested encounter.

She said: “They’re really fit and they’ve shown that, so it’s going to be a really tough game. Although we have beaten them twice this season, they have a lot to play for as they are still battling Manchester United for fourth. We are also fighting to finish higher in the league.

“I mean it’s going to be a close test because I don’t want the game to run away with them. I think we’ll make sure that doesn’t happen. I think it’s going to be fast, it’s going to be fierce and it’s going to come down to the little details, so we’re going to have to really be on it.”
