Polygon will begin the long-awaited POL token exchange for the long-running MATIC

“And then the second is a means for validators to effectively receive emissions,” Boiron added. “Effectively, if you think about these new chains that are coming up, what’s going to happen is that over time they’re going to want to decentralize. And so instead of just having a centralized sequencer, they’re going to have to incentivize people to actually run a decentralized pool or a decentralized prover. And if they don’t have a token or don’t want to launch a token yet, how do they do that? Well, effectively what this does is some of those POL emissions can be used to decentralize their network, and then the POL holders will get fees from that network.”
