A man killed himself after strangling his girlfriend during the sexual investigation

Mr Cannon’s parents Jane and Mikhail told the hearing that their son – who grew up in Hebden Bridge – worked as a model and TV personality between jobs as a personal trainer and hard worker.

Ms Cannon said he was a “wonderful man who lit up the room”.

She said she would always go out of her way to help others and cheer them up and believed she had found her soulmate in Miss Brooke.

She said he enjoyed leading a healthy lifestyle, with interests including hiking, going to the gym, cycling and spending quiet evenings with his family.

However, the inquest heard evidence from his GP and the Recovery Steps Calderdale drug and alcohol service that he had a history of steroid and cocaine use.

He also heard how Mr. Cannon called Miss Brooke “Chloe” instead of Georgia after he accidentally said the wrong name to her when he was drunk and got stuck.

At Miss Brooke’s inquest, her mother Samantha Beaumont said she believed this was a way of controlling her in the relationship.

But Mrs Cannon said her son had always spoken fondly of Miss Brooke, saying they had a balanced relationship and she had seen no evidence of coercion.

The coroner offered his “heartfelt condolences” to Mrs Cannon and said he hoped the families would one day be able to sit on the happy memories of their children.

“It will take some time, but I hope that day will come,” he said.
