Enfield firefighter running 100km in aid of local charity

Luke Goddard runs successful 62-mile club aimed at empowering children, Kinga Plata reports

An Enfield firefighter will run 100km in a day for charity.

Luke Goddard is running a 62-mile run for Success Club, an Enfield-based charity which aims to empower children and young people who are at risk of under-achieving and help them realize their potential.

Luke decided to take on this challenge to honor the memory of his late cousin, Dan, who tragically died of bone cancer at the age of 26.

Tomorrow’s run (Saturday 18th) will follow the Jurassic Coast of Dorset and is considered an ultra-alert route due to its length, which is more than twice the traditional marathon distance of 26 miles.

Money raised by Luke will support Success Club, which focuses on supporting children to overcome their negative behavioral patterns through reflective learning, confidence building and positive behavior programmes.

During one of his training sessions, Luke told them Dispatch: “I’m up for the challenge. And it’s actually the second time I’ve raised money for this charity. The first time was a year ago when my siblings and I, along with other family members, took on the Three Peak Challenge. We all wanted to do it in Dan’s memory. He died just 58 days after learning of his bone cancer diagnosis.

“Dan loved children. He just got along with children, he loved to play with them. He was kind at heart and loved to help people. Therefore, in his absence, I would like to support the charity that he personally liked and chose.”
