Japan shares fall at the close; The Nikkei 225 was down 0.72% by Investing.com

Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, it lost 0.72%.

The best performers of the session on the were Merchants Inc (TYO: ), which rose 5.14% or 122.00 points to trade at 2,496.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Konami Corp. (TYO:) added 2.78% or 365.00 points to end at 13,490.00 and Asahi Group Holdings, Ltd. (TYO: ) was up 2.67% or 145.00 points to end at 5,585.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Lasertec Corp (TYO: ), which decreased 4.80% or 1,120.00 points to trade at 22,195.00 at the close. Isuzu Motors, Ltd. (TYO: ) declined 3.78% or 80.50 points to end at 2,050.50 and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO: ) declined 3.38% or 68.00 points to 1,942.50.

Declining stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2,376 to 1,323, with 176 ending unchanged.

Shares in Konami Corp. (TYO:) rose to all-time highs; gaining 2.78% or 365.00 to 13,490.00.

Crude oil for October delivery rose 1.06%, or 0.72, to $68.39 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodity trading, Brent crude for November delivery rose 1.00% or 0.71 to $71.77 a barrel, while December gold futures were down 0.38 % or 9.50 to $2,515.10 per troy ounce.

USD/JPY rose 0.47% to 142.94, while EUR/JPY rose 0.30% to 158.19.

US dollar index futures rose 0.21% to 101.36.
