Kate Middleton says she has finished chemotherapy

On Monday, Kensington Palace shared a video statement from Kate on the Prince and Princess of Wales’ Instagram account. It showed clips of Kate, Prince William and their children spending time outdoors and with Kate’s parents.

“As the summer draws to a close, I can’t tell you what a relief it is to finally be done with chemotherapy,” Kate said in her statement.

“The last nine months have been incredibly difficult for us as a family,” she continued. “Life as you know it can change in an instant and we had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and the unknown road.”

The Princess of Wales began chemotherapy in late February, as she first shared in March amid her extended absence from the public eye. She had not made another public appearance since Christmas 2023 at the time of the announcement.

Kensington Palace previously said Kate underwent “planned abdominal surgery” in January, and she shared in her March announcement that her medical team “discovered that cancer was present” following the unspecified surgery. She started doing “preventive chemotherapy” after the surgery.

In Monday’s statement, the Princess of Wales shared insight into her experience with cancer.

“The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you,” she said. “Humblingly, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you’ve never considered before, and with it a new perspective on everything.”

“This time has, above all, reminded William and I to reflect and be grateful for the simple but important things in life that many of us often take for granted,” said Kate. “To simply love and be loved.”

“Doing everything I can to stay cancer free is my focus now,” she continued. “Although I have finished chemotherapy, my road to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes. However, I’m looking forward to getting back to work and taking on a few more public engagements in the coming months. when I can.”

Kate has only attended a handful of public engagements in 2024, making her return to public service at Trooping the Color in June.

She also attended Wimbledon with Princess Charlotte in July.

“Despite all that has come before, I enter this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life,” Kate said in the statement. “William and I are so grateful for the support we have received and have drawn great strength from everyone who is helping us at this time.”

“Everyone’s kindness, empathy and compassion has been truly humbling,” she said. “To all who continue their own journey against cancer – I stand with you, side by side, hand in hand. Out of darkness, light can come, so let that light shine.”
