Police want to identify two people caught on CCTV after a vicious attack on a couple in Hinckley in the early hours of this morning. Leicestershire Police said the couple suffered “significant injuries” and were taken to hospital after the attack.

The incident happened on Sunday, April 21, between 2.30am and 3am in Lancaster Road in the city centre. Today (Friday 17 May) the force launched an appeal on Facebook asking for help to identify the two men.

Police said in the post: “Officers are appealing for help to identify the two people pictured. They would like to speak to them in relation to an incident in Lancaster Road, Hinckley, which took place between 2.30am and 3am on Sunday, April 21.

“A man and a woman in their 30s were approached by a group who asked if they had a lighter for a cigarette. The group then attacked the couple, causing significant injuries which required hospital treatment.”

PC Aaron Jordan, the investigating officer, said that although the CCTV still does not clearly show the men, it is hoped that people who see the call will recognize them. He said: “From the inquiries so far, I believe the people in the picture may have information about what happened.

“While I appreciate this picture doesn’t show their faces clearly, I hope someone who knows who they are recognizes them. You can submit information by visiting https://orlo.uk/gjvXj and quoting reference 24*234969. Alternatively, call 101.”

One person who commented on the Facebook post said: “Always lived in Hinckley. It seems to be getting worse.”
