The Plaistow boy who fell from a tower block has been named for the first time as people laid flowers at the scene in Newham

Tributes have been left for a 5-year-old boy who fell 15 storeys from an east London block of flats on Thursday morning. The boy, who has been named locally as Aalim Makial Jibril, fell from a window of Jacobs House on New City Road in Plaistow shortly before 6am.

Air ambulance paramedics, police and firefighters attended but the boy, initially reported to be 6 but now confirmed to be 5, died at the scene. Police said the death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.




Caroline Stone, headteacher of New City Primary School in Plaistow, where Aalim went to school, said in the school’s weekly newsletter on Friday: “As you have heard, Aalim had a tragic accident yesterday. Our thoughts and prayers go out to him. family.”

Newham Council described the incident as “truly devastating” and said it was trying to establish “as full an understanding as possible of what happened”. Tributes were paid at the site outside the tower block, with bouquets of flowers lining the pavement. A card left at the scene read: “Family, you are in our thoughts, may he shine forever in your hearts. Love from all of us at Wild Green E13”.
