Catalytic converter thefts drop by 74%

For the second year in a row, State Farm auto claims data revealed a significant drop in catalytic converter theft claims.

There was a 74% decrease in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.

There were more than 3,800 complaints in the first half of this year, down from the same period last year when State Farm received more than 14,800 claims of catalytic converter theft.

Claims in the first half of 2024 totaled about $11.2 million, paid for repairs and replacement of stolen parts.

The average claim value in the first half of 2024 was nearly $2,900.
