Man in critical condition after incident on Nuneaton railway line

A man is in a critical condition following an incident on part of the railway in Nuneaton. Medics treated the man for trauma at the scene on the track next to the ‘iron bridge’ linking Black-A-Tree Road to Hilary Road earlier this morning (May 17).

West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) was among the emergency services responding after calls were made about “concern for the welfare” of a man, who has not been identified. British Transport Police have stopped all services on the line.

Firefighters from Nuneaton Fire Station were called to the scene to a “railway accident” and Warwickshire Police officers closed access to the bridge just before 6am. A WMAS spokesman said: “We were called at 6.19am to an incident near Vale View in Nuneaton.

“An ambulance, paramedic officer, Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and critical care vehicle from the Air Ambulance Service attended the scene. Upon arrival we found a man with serious injuries. He received advanced trauma care at the scene before being transported to Coventry University Hospital for further treatment.”

A spokesman for British Transport Police, which led the response to the incident, added: “Officers were called to the line in Nuneaton at around 6.15am today (May 17) following reports of concern for welfare. Officers attended, along with paramedics, and one person was taken to hospital with life-changing but non-life-threatening injuries.”

Officers from Warwickshire Police kept the area of the bridge closed for several hours. Rail services resumed just after 9.30am, but there were delays as a result.
