Unai Emery delivers ‘bad news’ as Aston Villa player breaks metatarsal to miss Euro 2024

Youri Tielemans, Morgan Rogers and Matty Cash have been ruled out of Aston Villa’s trip to Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Belgium midfielder Tielemans returned to action last Monday to face Liverpool after picking up a groin injury in the 2-2 draw with Chelsea, while Rogers picked up an injury in the defeat against Brighton and came off in the first half.




Loanee Nicolo Zaniolo was also ruled out after injuring his foot during a brief cameo off the bench against Liverpool. The Italian will also miss Euro 2024.

“Zaniolo has broken his metatarsal and it’s bad news,” Unai Emery said in his pre-match press conference. “It was a doubt but he made the effort to play on Monday because he had back pain after the game we played against Lille.

“He made the effort because we tried to use every player. He played 10 minutes and broke his metatarsal and will be out of the Euros. It’s very sad for him. At the beginning of the season it will be difficult for him. .

“Mings, Buendia, Kamara, Ramsey, Tielemans, Cash and Morgan are not available. We will play there being competitive.”
