Delaware Insurance Commissioner Navarro Wins Primary Election

Delaware Insurance Commissioner Trinidad Navarro won this week’s Democratic primary for the post, garnering more than 70 percent of the vote over his rival, Kayode Abegunde.

Navarro was first elected commissioner in 2016. He served 20 years with the New Castle County Police and was elected Sheriff of New Castle County in 2010. While a police officer, he received the department’s Medal of Valor.

Abegunde, director of Keystone Human Services and a minister, also ran for the office in 2020.

Navarro will now face Republican Ralph Taylor in the November general election. Taylor and his wife own a pest control service. He was also a police officer, a member of the Capital School Board and a Dover Town Councilman.
