The war on terror began after the attacks of September 11, 2001. Today, the US military has withdrawn from Afghanistan, but troops are still in some Middle Eastern countries such as Iraq and Syria fighting the terrorist group, ISIS. The US military today works with local security forces to train and assist them in the fight against terrorist groups.

24/7 Wall St. reviewed multiple catalogs of modern American firearms from Military Factory, an online database of weapons, aircraft and vehicles used in the military worldwide to compile a list of US weapons used to fight global terrorism. I have also included information on the gun type, manufacturer, maximum effective range, caliber and year introduced.

During the past 20 years of global conflict, the US has used many valuable assets, including armored vehicles, aircraft and naval vessels. In addition, infantry troops equipped with American-made weapons were essential to peacekeeping. These weapons include battle rifles, shotguns, sniper rifles and more and range from older models to new technology. (Here are the 50 the most popular weapons of all time.)

In 2011, Remington M2010 ESR (Enhanced Sniper Rifle) was deployed like a standard tactical sniper rifle. It is a modern version of the Remington 700. Remington has been around a long time celebration for its accuracy and consistency. M2010 ESR is the roommate chambered for the Winchester 300 magnum cartridge with a 5-round magazine, comes standard with the Leupold Mk IV tactical scope and has a maximum effective range of 3,935 ft. (These are the classic long range sniper rifles of WWII.)

Sniper rifles were not the only weapons issued to the troops during this conflict. Shotguns like the Mossberg Model 590 or carbines like the Colt M4 came standard issue. So are handguns like the Colt M1911. All of these weapons and more have added to the combat effectiveness of US troops in the fight against terrorism.

Here are the US weapons used to fight terrorism:

Why are we covering this?
