Tom Holland’s debut film will soon be removed from BBC iPlayer

Tom Holland is now one of the biggest stars in the world, but it’s easy to forget that he wasn’t always Spider-Man.

After impressing as Billy Elliot on stage, Holland made his way into films and began with a more dramatic scene. Technically his debut film was an English dubbed role for Arrietty as Shō, but the first time I saw him in a film was The Impossible.

The disaster film is based on a family’s experience during the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004. Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor star as Maria and Henry Bennett, and Holland plays Lucas, one of their three sons.

If you haven’t seen it yet, The Impossible is available to watch on BBC iPlayer right now, but will be removed in the early hours of April 1st, meaning that Sunday, March 31 it’s your last full day to watch it.

The Impossible is also available to watch right now on Netflix in the UK and Ireland.

In 2013, Holland was on the award circuit for The Impossible when he was asked what his ideal roles would be in the future.

“There are so many roles done every year that it’s impossible to say exactly what you want to do, but something that has a bit of action or a bit of comedy; maybe something that’s less serious than The Impossible. Maybe something a little funny.” he said.

“What kind of superhero would I want to play? Maybe Spider-Man in 10 years. May be. Reboot reboot.”

What a prediction it turned out to be.

The Impossible was directed by JA Bayona, who returned to the disaster genre earlier this year with Society of the Snow, which became one of the most watched non-English films on Netflix.

It’s also nominated for Best International Feature at this year’s Oscars, but Society of the Snow faces stiff competition from Zone of Interest. The two films went head-to-head at the BAFTAs, with Zone of Interest winning.

The Impossible will be removed from BBC iPlayer on April 1.
