At the top of the list of travelers with the most frequent requests for wedding insurance, it is not so surprising

When something goes wrong at a wedding and a claim is filed, one of the most common reasons behind the snafu isn’t too surprising – someone probably wasn’t doing their job.

Vendor difficulties topped the list of wedding requests. Almost half (45%) of wedding claims are due to wedding planners not completing their jobs, venues closing and photographers not showing up, according to a report by Travelers Insurance on the leading causes of wedding insurance claims paid in 2023 .

Property damage was the next most common claim, reaching 18%. Reported damage included damaged tables and chairs, damage to the dance floor and broken plates. Illness and injury was next on the list at 14%. This was followed by issues related to the weather (12%) and military deployment (6%). Last on the list was other potential incidents (5%). This category includes the special wedding outfit that didn’t arrive on time or the ring bearer lost their rings.

Travelers surveyed more than 450 brides and grooms and included carrier claims data to compile the study.
