Fire declaration as derelict Leeds pub goes up in flames

A busy road in Leeds remains closed after a derelict pub caught fire overnight.

Three fire crews were sent to tackle the blaze on Queen Street at 2.56am this morning (May 7). Firefighters extinguished the fire that was found on the ground floor and basement of the building.




An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, a spokesman for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said.

Wakefield Road was closed in both directions from the M621 J7 to Queen Street while emergency services dealt with the fire, but has since reopened.

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We were called at 02.56am this morning to Queen Street in Leeds to reports of a fire in a derelict building.

“We sent three crews, plus an aerial ladder. It was found to be a fire on the ground floor and basement of the property, which crews extinguished.

“We are working with colleagues from West Yorkshire Police to investigate the cause of the fire.”
