‘Dangerous’ man jailed after raping woman in Streatham home

A man has been jailed for life and placed on the sex offenders register for life after raping a woman in Streatham.

Raphael Fakoya, 35, was sentenced to nine years in prison on May 13 after being found guilty of numerous sex offences.

The attack took place in February 2022 at Fakoya’s home with a woman he knew.

Fakoya will be on the sex offenders register for life.

Following a hearing at Croydon Crown Court on January 24, Fakoya, of Beatrice Avenue, SW16, was declared a serious risk to women.

He pleaded guilty to three counts of rape, two counts of penetrative assault and one count of sexual assault.

Detective Constable Jo Cheung, who led the investigation leading to Fakoya’s conviction, said: “I hope this conviction and sentence reinforces the message that the Met is committed to investigating sex crimes and ensuring that those who commit such acts are brought before the courts to be held accountable for their actions.

“The women that Fakoya attacked put their trust in us to listen and support her in this ordeal. We investigated her claims and now a dangerous sexual predator is in jail.

“I would urge anyone who has been sexually abused to speak to the police so that you can also have any allegations investigated.”
