Beautiful waterfall with a scenic lunch just 90 minutes from Coventry

There’s something magical about a waterfall – and if you get in the car, you can drive up and see an absolute cracker. Plus, you can top it off with lunch at a pub that dates back to 1593 and serves food that shouldn’t break the bank.

Lightsput Waterfall is 90 minutes from Coventry in the Carding Mill Valley in the heart of the Long Mynd. It offers panoramic views of the Shropshire hills.

The falls were called “Niagara in miniature” by the Victorians and there are beautiful red kites flying around if you can spot them.

You can soak it all in on a 2.8 mile walk that takes about two hours. There is free parking available for National Trust members, reports Birmingham Live.

Start your journey from the Lodge Pavilion and follow the green trail markers upstream to the site of the former top parking lot. From there, follow the red markers on the rocky trail on the left side of the creek to Lightspout Hollow.

This trail will take you to the waterfall. You can find the full route on the National Trust website.

The climb can be “difficult at times” and caution is advised near the falls as the ground can be slippery when wet. Look out for rare plants and wildlife along the way.

After your walk, consider visiting the charming market town of Church Stretton and enjoy lunch at The Kings Arms, one of the oldest pubs in the area. Well behaved dogs are also welcome.

A recent review on Tripadvisor says it’s “amazing value for money”. Reviewer anteallachleicester said: “It has a lovely large bar area and restaurant at the back.

“I ate in both. The staff were always friendly and helpful.

“The menu is varied and caters for gluten free needs. What’s amazing is the portion size and the price. It’s a shame this place isn’t closer to home as it’s extremely good value. I can’t recommend this place enough. “

The pub boasts a spacious beer garden for those sunny days and cozy log burners for when the weather turns cold. Among the many drinks on offer, it serves Joule’s Ale, brewed in Market Drayton using pure Shropshire mineral water.
