Leeds United have been interested in signing Rotherham goalkeeper Viktor Johansson, but the Swedish stopper is instead heading to Stoke City very soon.

The Whites will be busy in the transfer market, regardless of which division they end up in after a trip to Wembley in eight days’ time.

Illan Meslier was a big part of how Leeds got through the play-off semi-final against Norwich City, but that doesn’t stop links to a ‘keeper’.

Viktor Johansson on Leeds’ summer transfer radar

It has been claimed by Swedish outlet Aftonbladet that Leeds are one of the clubs currently interested in signing Rotherham United goalkeeper Viktor Johansson.

The Millers were relegated some time ago but the 25-year-old caught the eye with his impressive shot-stopping performance in a poor Rotherham side.

His contract included a release clause claimed to be around £730,000 in the report above, and Sheffield United are looking.

Stoke City have won the race for Viktor Johansson

However, Leeds will not sign Johansson this summer as the Telegraph’s John Percy said he is heading elsewhere in the Championship.

Stoke City have agreed a deal to offload the ‘keeper, with his release clause triggered at a fee of just over £1m.

The goalkeeper underwent a medical on Friday to join Steven Schumacher’s side in the summer window.

Johansson signs astutely for Stoke, Leeds miss

If we’re going to promote, the club might be looking for someone of a higher caliber, but Johansson has been huge for a while now.

He deserves a good move and you would expect that if Stoke continue to invest in players of this quality, they will be in the top six in the coming period.

It’s a surprise Johansson hasn’t left for a side more likely to be at the top of the table next term.
