The Hull FC-linked manager has pulled out of the running as he takes on a new role

Almost a month on from the sacking of Tony Smith, Hull FC are still without a head coach and now one of those men linked with the role has taken a job elsewhere.

In the weeks since Smith’s sacking, there have been many changes at Hull FC, with Director of Rugby Richie Myler appointed and long-serving CEO James Clark stepping down, but no new head coach yet.

Hull FC would try to go all out for Paul Rowley, but the Salford Red Devils boss has backfired, opting to stay at the Greater Manchester club instead of moving to West Hull.

Several names have been linked to the vacant role and one of those men has now been confirmed to take on a new role.

That man is former South Sydney Rabbitohs boss Jason Demetriou, with the former Wakefield Trinity player fired with the Bunnies at the foot of the NRL table.

It wasn’t just the form of the 2024 season that saw Demetriou out, but the form at the end of the 2023 season, with the Rabbitohs throwing away a play-off spot as they lost nine of their last thirteen games, before starting the season with a record a victory. and six losses.

As such, Demetriou, who was linked with the Hull FC role by Sky Sports, was sacked but quickly found new work.

That activity is in the media, with Demetriou taking up a role for Triple M as part of their commentary team for the remainder of the 2024 NRL season.

Just a week after the sacking, he has been snapped up and will join a team featuring former St Helens star James Graham, who also provides analysis on Triple M.

It’s somewhat of a blow for Hull FC, given reports from Sky Sports that Demetriou was on the Black and White’s reported shortlist.

He was also shortlisted by Sky Sports’ Jenna Brooks, who suggested some bold names as candidates.

Jenna Brooks’ proposed shortlist ahead of Hull FC’s clash with Warrington Wolves featured a number of NRL names as well as Demetriou, but there was a strong Super League bias.

Names such as current caretaker manager Simon Grix feature, as well as current Warrington and Castleford assistants in the form of Martin Gleeson and Danny Maguire.

Hull KR assistant coach Danny Ward was another mentioned, while two of the bold shouts were Shaun Wane and Adrian Lam.

Adrian Lam’s name started to gain traction though following confirmation that Hull FC had signed John Asiata, however, Lam’s suggestions for the MKM Stadium were quieted after Derek Beaumont poured water on them.

He revealed to Leigh Leopards fans that the club had offered Lam a three-year deal, which Lam was surprised was made public as he claimed the information was “not quite right”.
