Video: Fox Reporter Saves Woman from Hurricane Helene Flood on Air

  • Fox Weather’s Bob Van Dillen rescued a woman live from flood waters in Atlanta.
  • Hurricane Helene caused severe flooding and power outages in the southeastern US.
  • The Category 4 hurricane made landfall near Perry, Florida, Thursday evening.

Fox Weather reporter Bob Van Dillen rescued a woman live from floodwaters while reporting on the impact of Hurricane Helene in Atlanta in the early hours of Friday morning.

In the dramatic footage, Van Dillen could be seen wading into chest-deep water to get the woman, who was stuck in her car, to safety.

Van Dillen, who was reporting live on “Fox and Friends” at the time, said he sprang into action after hearing her cries for help.

“I took my wallet out of my pants and I went in there, I went in the chest,” Van Dillen later told “Fox and Friends” hosts Steve Doocy and Janice Dean.

“She was there, she was still strapped into the car and the water was actually going up and up into the car itself, so she was almost, up to her neck, submerged in her own car,” he said, adding that she likely would have drowned if he had not entered.

In the live report, a man who appeared to be the woman’s husband could be seen shaking Van Dillen’s hand and thanking him.

“I would do it again,” Van Dillen replied. He then continued with Fox Weather’s report on record water levels in the area.

Fox spokespeople did not respond to Business Insider’s request for comment after business hours.

At the time of writing, at least 52 people have died in the storm, which has hit the southeast coast of the US, according to the Associated Press.

Millions of people in Florida and nearby states were without power as floodwaters rose to record highs in many areas.

The Category 4 hurricane made landfall near Perry, Florida, just east of the mouth of the Aucilla River, Thursday evening. Wind gusts reached 140 miles per hour.

The National Hurricane Center said Saturday that Helene had been downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone and was moving slowly through the Tennessee Valley as heavy rains abated.
