The most popular baby names in England and Wales are even used for opposite sexes

Noah and Olivia were still the most popular names for newborns in England and Wales in the latest figures. Both have been at the top of their charts for some time.

According to statistics, Noah and Olivia have been so popular in recent years that they even crossed over to be used for the opposite sexes. From 2015 to 2022, statistics suggest that 69 baby girls were named Noah. Meanwhile, in 2008, there were three lucky boys who were given the name Olivia.




There were a total of 3,289 baby girls named Olivia in 2022, according to new figures published by the Office for National Statistics.

That makes it the most popular name for newborn girls for the seventh year in a row. Amelia was the next most popular name with 2,884 newborns.

Next is Isla with 2,613, Ava with 2,293 and Lily with 2,281. Old-fashioned names make up the majority of the girls’ top 10, with others including Ivy, Freya and Florence.

Noah is the most popular name for newborn boys, with 4,586 babies receiving the name in 2022. This is the second year in a row that Noah has topped the baby name charts.

Muhammad moved up to second place from fifth place, with 4,177 boys receiving the name in 2022. However, the combined number of babies named either Muhammed, Mohammed or Mohammad in 2022 was 6,715.
