Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall’s granddaughter Eliza Lopes was rushed to hospital by air ambulance

Camilla has spoken of the terrifying moment her granddaughter was rushed to hospital in an air ambulance.

The Duchess of Cornwall, 71, was visiting an air base near Chippenham yesterday when she spoke of the terrifying experience in a speech.

“I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in this wonderful project. I know what a fantastic job the air ambulance does,” Camilla began.

“I’ve seen him and known friends who were literally saved by him.

“My niece was taken to Yorkshire one year and thankfully she was sorted and fine, but it gave my daughter so much confidence to be on board.”

Although she didn’t mention her by name, Camilla is believed to have been talking about her nine-year-old niece Eliza Lopes.

Eliza is the daughter of Laura Lopes, Camilla’s 40-year-old daughter from her marriage to Andrew Parker Bowles.

When Prince William and Kate Middleton decided to tie the knot in 2011, they had Laura’s adorable daughter Eliza as their flower girl.

Camilla is a proud grandmother of five, with her daughter Laura being mum to nine-year-old Eliza and eight-year-old twins Gus and Louis and the duchess’s son Tom being dad to Lola, 11, and Freddie Eight-year-old Parker Bowles.

The duchess claimed in The Real Camilla: HRH The Duchess of Cornwall documentary that he loves nothing better than spoiling his grandchildren.

“It’s really nice because you don’t have all the responsibility,” she said.

“You can give them a great time, spoil them, give them all the things their parents won’t let them have, and then give it back.”

Camilla also revealed in BBC One documentary movie, Prince, son and heir: Charles at 70 that Prince Charles is an incredible grandfather.

“He reads Harry Potter and can do all the different voices and I think the kids really appreciate that,” she said.

“He’ll get on his knees and crawl around with them for hours, you know, making funny noises and laughing, and my grandkids love it, absolutely love it.”

Laura Parker Bowles married Harry Lopes in 2006, with both Prince Harry and Prince William in attendance.

Also at the lavish ceremony, which took place in Wiltshire, was Prince William’s girlfriend at the time, Kate Middleton.

Tom married fashion writer Sara Parker Bowles in 2005, however sources claimed earlier this year that they were experiencing ‘difficulties’ in their marriage.
