Dentist’s warning of ‘severe infection’ for people who neglect oral hygiene

A dentist has issued a warning after a new study found a link between poor oral hygiene and severe head and neck infections. Dr. Ferakh Hamid of Aesthetique Dental Care said proactive dental care is urgently needed to prevent life-threatening complications.

Dr Hamid said: “Recent studies have revealed strong links between poor oral hygiene and severe head and neck infections. Neglecting oral health not only leads to dental problems, but also significantly increases the risk of hospitalization due to these infections. When oral infections progress, they can quickly affect the throat area, leading to serious complications.

“For example, root canal infections or inflammation of the supporting tissues of the tooth can spread to the neck area through the lymphatic vessels or blood vessels. Proper and timely treatment of dental problems is essential to prevent them from escalating into life-threatening conditions. Investing in oral hygiene isn’t just about maintaining a bright smile; it is a fundamental aspect of overall health, protecting against a range of serious infections.

“Research consistently shows that good dental care can reduce health care costs and reduce complications and deaths related to these infections. By focusing on oral health initiatives, we can significantly reduce the risks associated with dental-related infections.”

Measures to prevent dental infections

Dr Hamid said: “Preventing dental infections requires a multi-faceted approach, including regular dental check-ups, diligent oral hygiene practices and a healthy diet. Studies highlight the benefits of simple actions such as regular brushing with fluoride toothpaste and daily flossing. Given that approximately 1.4% of critically ill patients may die and complications occur in approximately 20% of cases, it is essential to adopt these preventive practices to avoid serious health problems.”

Innovative preventive technologies

Dr Hamid said: “Innovations in dental technology, such as the introduction of antibacterial treatments such as Lumoral, are providing new ways to fight oral disease. These advances are extremely effective at removing plaque – with up to 99.998% efficiency – which can transform the way we care. our teeth and help prevent diseases caused by bacteria.

“Understanding the wider health impact of oral infections highlights the importance of cooperation between dental and medical professionals. Working together, they can provide comprehensive care and early intervention for serious conditions. This team approach is particularly crucial to tackling the increasing cases of deep throat infections, particularly among vulnerable groups.”
