Daniel Farke wants to reunite with £8m man at Leeds United but faces Premier League ‘trag of war’

Daniel Farke is mulling a move to sign a player he bought during his time at Norwich City if Leeds United win promotion to the Premier League but face competition at the top.

Leeds are just one game away from reaching the Premier League and securing an immediate return to the top flight after destroying Norwich at Elland Road in the second leg of their play-off semi-final, winning 4-0.

They face Southampton in Sunday’s final at Wembley in what will be a tough test for Farke’s men, with Leeds suffering defeats at home and away to Russell Martin’s side in the regular season in the Championship.

Whether Leeds stay in the Championship or gain promotion will determine the level of business they do this summer and the caliber of players they sign with targets drawn for both eventualities.

One Premier League target is a player Farke once signed for an £8million fee in 2021, one Leeds have faced over two legs. Leeds will certainly be looking to strengthen their attack this summer.

Farke are keen to sign American star Josh Sargent but face competition from Premier League clubs and here’s what the report has to say about a possible move:

Leeds are eyeing Josh Sargent to reunite with Farke after £8m move to Norwich

Sargent, 24, joined Norwich in the summer of 2021, just months before Farke was sacked by the Canaries after struggling in their second Premier League shot at a second title of the championship.

Ankle surgery earlier this season limited Sargent to just 26 league appearances in the regular season, but the striker still managed 16 goals, an impressive tally that has attracted the attention of many clubs.

The Sunday Mirror (19/05, p70) report that Leeds are keen to lure Sargent to Elland Road and set up a reunion with Farke should Leeds go up. It will be expensive, with his contract set to run until 2028.

However, Leeds are not alone in their pursuit of the Norwich ace, who is represented by the same agency that handles Weston McKennie. Premier League trio Bournemouth, Brentford and Fulham also want Sargent.

Illan Meslier earned Farke praise for denying Sargent on Thursday

Although it was almost all one-way traffic at Elland Road, Sargent had a glorious chance to bring Norwich back into the game on Thursday, 2-0 to Leeds, but his face was saved by Illan Meslier.

A crucial save that Daniel Farke described as “world class”, while Simon Grayson claimed it was one of the “greatest” moments of the French goalkeeper’s career. It ended any sliver of hope that Norwich would win.

But now Sargent has a chance to get into the Premier League anyway, despite losing out in the play-offs, and Leeds could be the ones to give him that opportunity in the summer, if he gets promoted of course.
